We work closely with employers to identify opportunities for our clients to undertake work shadow placements in order to gain UK work experience and we provide specialised employability and empowerment support using our knowledge of the barriers and challenges facing those entering the UK workforce from abroad.

Venture Scotland offer young people aged 16-30, a FREE 4-stage, progressive, personal development programme based in the outdoors, lasting up to a year, focused on helping to improve their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. The programme is group-based and involves meeting twice a week to participate in fun and challenging sessions that use the outdoor environment to stimulate and sustain personal development and growth. Activities include everything from hill walking to canoeing to coasteering.

Forth Valley Migrant Support Network has been established to address the problems of disenfranchised migrants whose first language is not English. The organisation has been set up by volunteers involving different nationalities.  You do not have to be a migrant to access help. We would aid any elderly locals to our office needing face to face help with telephone or internet. We are currently focusing our work within the Falkirk area with Forth Valley Migrant Support Network being the only voluntary group in the area providing this unique service, presently three days per week.

A support and advocacy service based at the Glasgow Rape Crisis Centre which specialises in working with women from black and minority ethnic communities, and asylum seeking or refugee women. We support women and girls aged 13 and over who have experienced sexual violence at some point in their lives, whether it happened in the UK or in another country. We offer culturally sensitive face to face emotional support, regardless of immigration status, plus advocacy support for practical issues facing asylum seeking and refugee women.
 
Women can self-refer to the project, and we accept referrals from organisations over the phone (08 088 00 00 14) or by email (info@rubyproject.co.uk). There is also a drop in every Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am and 2pm.

A confidential service which provides help, support and refuge for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. We offer telephone support 9.30 - 5.00 Monday to Friday and the drop in support is open until 4.30 pm five days a week; We offer refuge if space is available and we offer support and information on legal rights including children, housing options, entitlement to benefits etc. We provide follow-on support after refuge and outreach for children and young people.

Tron St Mary’s

The Tron St. Mary’s church does a lot of work with asylum-seekers. Twice a week asylum-seekers arrive from Liverpool and London to stay in the flats for four to six weeks while they wait to see if they will be allowed to settle in Glasgow or be deported. The church also runs a drop-in centre, craft group, English class, community cafe, Girls Club and Zumba takes place on a Thursday evening. It holds culture nights welcoming people of all nationalities. A Parish Assistant is employed to work primarily with the asylum-seekers. There is a core congregation of around 80 plus a large turnover of other people attending. The Church serves both as a place of worship for the people of our parish and as a centre for a range of local community activities.

The Wing Hong Elderly Group was formed in 1989 with help from the Social Work Department and the then Ethnic Minorities Project. in 1992, the Group employed a development worker for two years under the Scottish Office Ethnic Minority Grant Scheme. From 1993, Urban Aid funding was granted to the Group and in 1997 the Project received grants from the Social Inclusion Budget and Social Work Service of the Glasgow City Council. Currently, the Group was a membership of over 680 with an annual growth of 10-12% and has over 200 regular users attending its Centre. The project is a authorised service provider and a registered charity. The aim of the Project is to enhance the quality of life for the Chinese elderly.

ASRA

ASRA is a multi faith and multi cultural service for older and disabled people, their carers and families and new communities such as asylum seekers and refugees. The service includes day care, home support and outreach work. ASRA aims to tackle a number of barriers which minority communities are facing such as communication, isolation, social exclusion, poverty and inequality. The project aims to provide ethnically sensitive drop in centre, offer regular advice on a range of issues such as welfare rights and housing, organise indoor activities such as sports, recreational activities, cultural programmes and other education and training activities.
